51 What’s in a fuse?

The evolution of automotive electrical fuses is an interesting one. As things become more and more compact in the quest for greater space efficiency, auto fuses have been getting smaller and smaller. Glass fuses are pretty much a thing of the past being replaced in the last decade with “blade” style fuses and now more commonly the “mini-blade”. Each is rated to differing amperage depending on the job it has to perform and the circuit to protect from overloading. What is really useful to have in your spares kit though is a collection of common fuses seen on your 4WD or ATV. They’re inexpensive and easily stowed away, a plastic multi-box storage container with a clear face is a great way to pack a stash of 5A, 10A, 15A, 20A and 25 or 30A fuses in their respective colours for easy identification and immediate repair.
